  • 2/10/12 - The next Game Developer's Conference is right around the corner. Marty Stoltz and I will be doing the fourth installment in our Cinemaitic Game Design series, showing how cinematic techniques can be incorporated into gameplay without removing interactivity. This talk is about Character & Empathy and is Wednesday at 3:30. If you have any empathy or character, you'll come see us.
  • 3/2/11 - The slides for my GDC 2011 talk Seven Ways a Video Game Can Be Moral are now up on the writings page.
  • 2/24/11 - In exactly one week I'll be talking at the Game Developer's Conference, this year on "Seven Ways a Video Game Can Be Moral". It's my seventh talk in six years. As usual, it'll be a montage of film/TV/literature/game examples. It'll be entertaining and, yes, the talk itself does have a moral. I've also updated the games page to better reflect what I'm working on these days (though it's still a secret).
  • 3/16/10 - I finally posted the slides for my two Game Developer's Conference 2010 talks, Five Ways a Video Game Can Make You Cry and Environmental Narrative: Your World is Your Story on the writings page.
  • 1/18/10 - I will be giving two talks, one on Environmental Narrative and one more light hearted and personal titled "Five Ways a Computer Game Can Make You Cry", at this year's Game Developer's Conference, March 11th through 13th in San Francisco. If you're there, stop on by, I promise to keep them entertaining.
  • 11/03/09 - I did a "Greatest Hits" edition of Cinematic Game Design at the MIT Gambit Game Lab last week, for the comparative media department. The audio is available in podcast/streaming format here.
  • 11/02/09 - Added slides (tho no video) for my Philadelphia GameX Industry Summit Keynote, Homage or Swipe? Inspiration or Rip-Off? On the Origins of Game Ideas talk, which I also gave at the MIT Gambit Game Lab. Check them out on the Writings page.
  • 3/26/09 - Added non-video version of slides from my GDC presentation, Cinematic Game Design III: Action. Check them out on the Writings page.
  • 6/1/08 - Finally put up the Drakan: The Ancients' Gates Postmortem I wrote for Game Developer magazine in the Writings section. This is a longer version than they ran, with extra images as well. 2002 doesn't seem so long ago now...
  • 2/24/08 - Added non-video version of slides from my Stories Best Played panel from the Game Developer's Conference. Check them out here.
  • 1/5/08 - Updated the Games Page with what I've been up to lately. Also, I will be speaking at the upcoming Game Developer's Conference, on February 20th to be precise. I'll be moderating and speaking on a panel entitled "Stories Best Played." Come check it out.

Get down, get undressed
Get pretty but you and me,
We got the kingdom, we got the key
We got the empire, now as then,
We don't doubt, we don't take direction,
